xG®
Technology, Inc. Receives INTERNET TELEPHONY®
Magazine’s Twelfth Annual
Product of the Year Award
xMax®
Mobile
VoIP & Broadband Technology Recognized for Outstanding
Innovation
Sarasota, FL,
(Feb. 24, 2010) — xG® Technology, Inc.
(“xG”) announced today that
Technology Marketing Corporation’s (TMC®)
INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine has named xMax®
as a recipient of its 2009 Product of the Year Award. xMax
is a new cellular infrastructure that employs smart radio
technology to improve the utilization of the nation’s
airwaves—potentially saving consumers money by allowing the
delivery of affordable mobile VoIP and broadband services
across free spectrum.
“INTERNET TELEPHONY is proud to grant xG Technology a
2009 Product of the Year Award for their xMax Mobile VoIP.
xG has proven its commitment to quality and excellence
while addressing real needs in the marketplace,” said
Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. “We’re happy to recognize and
honor xG for their development of IP communications
technology. We look forward to more innovative solutions
from them in the future.”
As demand for
bandwidth-consuming services used by more and more people
leads to clogged airwaves, some experts have begun
to
predict that
demand for
mobile services will surpass the spectrum available to meet
it. This spectrum crunch has spurred innovation in advanced
radio technology and renewed interest in reclaiming spectrum
that was once considered too crowded and interference-prone
to deliver in-demand service such as mobile broadband and
VoIP.
xMax was built from the ground up to be all-IP. It is built
to offer the reliability, scalability, and flexibility to
deliver advanced voice and data services required today.
xMax represents the first fully mobile VoIP infrastructure
available to the market. It answers the need for a system
to deliver high-QoS (quality of service) voice and mobile
data services over an all-IP network. Other wireless
technologies are primarily data-centric and were not
developed with mobile VoIP in mind. Consequently they must
be operated in conjunction with a circuit-switched 2G
network to offer voice services. By contrast, xMax was
designed to enable and prioritize high-quality voice and
data transmissions across a single network with a view to
saving operational costs.
Using cognitive
radio technology, xG has designed the xMax platform to
operate in the 902–928 MHz unlicensed band. Because xMax
operates in free, unlicensed spectrum instead of extremely
costly licensed spectrum, it can be deployed with
significantly lower CAPEX costs than alternative systems.
These lower costs can ultimately be realized by consumers.
For deployment
partners seeking to provide advanced mobile voice and
broadband Internet services, xMax offers very compelling
economics to drive customer uptake, including low costs and
a rapidly deployable infrastructure. These benefits make
xMax an extremely efficient way to build and roll out
broadband wireless networks.
“We are pleased to be recognized by TMC for our mobile VoIP
and broadband technology,” said Rick Mooers, Chairman and
CEO of xG Technology. “This award further demonstrates that
the numerous benefits and advantages provided by xMax will
help usher in a new era of lower cost wireless services.”
A complete list
of Product of the Year winners is published in the February
2010 issue of INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine,
(www.itmag.com). INTERNET TELEPHONY has been the
authority in IP communication since 1998™.
